Stand Solid Where You Are

“If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence, we could rise up rooted like trees.” Rainer Maria Rilke (Macy, 2005)

Oftentimes, when I am going through a transition period in my life, I want to flee, to run away to some place unknown and start fresh, leaving behind all that has troubled me. I’m not 100 per cent sure, but I would venture to guess this happens to many people. Sometimes, it feels as though it would be easier to start over than to muddle my way through the void. Of course, this doesn’t actually happen. I have too many reasons to stay where I am, namely my two beautiful grandchildren whom I love and adore, my clients, and my extended family. I have found this momentary desire to flee occurs when I’ve neglected to stay mindful and have allowed my mind to wander into the land of “what-if’s” and “if-only’s.” Guaiacwood, a salve-like essence from Paraguay, was one I chose on a day I was experiencing this type of funk. She fulfilled her role and took me deep into my meditation:

Stand solid where you are, Beloved. You must release your constant thoughts about moving away from where you live. Be present and find joy where you are as this is exactly where you need to be in this moment. The tree world doesn’t experience such desires. We are happy to be wherever we are and enjoy life as it is. You stand in judgment of those who you don’t think are awake in life. That is why you are called to be there! Be the Light that awakens them. Live from your place of authenticity and don’t worry about how others perceive you.

The universe knows where you need to be and before another opportunity opens, you must embrace the lessons now! Release all judgments!

I’ll admit it, sometimes I argue with God: “But I want to be around open-minded people. I’m too angry to shine my Light. Why did you plop me in the middle of a corn field? I’ve tried to show the way, only to be rejected and mocked.” And then something shifts and mindfulness brings me back to the present moment where I can stand solid in who I am with the understanding that I have the choice to be where I want to be. I am grateful for the essences and the reminders they bring. I am grateful that I am surrounded by nature and can breathe fresh air (except for the times the farmer spreads his manure). I am grateful for the opportunities to connect with like-minded people in other ways. I am grateful for the lives I have been able to touch. I love who I am and what I believe to be true. And what is most certainly true is that I know there is unconditional love holding and guiding me through all of life’s challenges and lessons.

Have you ever had the feeling of wanting to run and start over?

What has carried you through those troubling times?

Next time it strikes, can you imagine yourself like a tree, standing solid in who you are and what you believe to be true?

Can you find joy in shining your Light where you currently are?
