Trust and Believe

“God is the strength in which I trust” (A Course in Miracles, lesson #49)

Surrender is the word that keeps coming to me as I reflect on the above phrase. Trust and believe! Not such an easy thing to do when I’m in the middle of trying to figure something out.

Of course, it has been in those moments of complete surrender, when I throw up my arms and shout “I can’t figure this out!” and totally give in to whatever “it” is, that the situation then resolves itself. Has this ever happened to you? It seems that once I give up thinking about it, the universe has the opportunity to take control and the answers unfold naturally and effortlessly.

It is surprising to me that after learning this lesson, time and time again, I still fall easily back into the pattern of wanting to ‘figure it out’. I fall back into relying on my own understanding instead of trusting and believing that the answers are already there, I just need to get out of the way!

There is a beautiful song by Sara Thomsen, “Oh Spirit Guide Me” that becomes my prayer when I’m stuck in the old pattern:

Oh Spirit guide me now Oh Spirit guide me now Oh Spirit guide me now In your way, guide me. Simple but profound. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight” Proverbs 3:5

May you ease into surrender as you trust and believe!
